Best K's Scenario
If this season produces nothing else for Mariners Fans, it will have at least produced Wednesday, April 11th. For now, don't think too hard about it, and enjoy the hype as if it were the ALCS. Maybe, someyear soon, it will be.
For one game, the enemy of my enemy will be my enemy as well.
Dice-K for Boston.
Felix for Seattle.
It's an our-best-warrior-against-yours, Boagrius vs. Achillies (but with Boagrius actually being another Achillies) scenario. SHHHHHush about the uneven offensive lineups! I'm just looking at the pitching.
If a semi-apocalyptic pitching duel - one that is whispering "Cy Young" if you turn up your sound loud enough - isn't enough for you, check out what Boston's 103.1 million-dollar man had to say last November (from the Seattle Times, link):
Shivers. As long as he's a Mariner, Ichiro's our best, and he will continue to give me shivers. God, that makes Dice-K sound so sinister. I picture the screen fading to black with just Dice-K's eyes glowing in the dark, much like Ursula in that one scene of the Little Mermaid.
You can read up on the previous encounters in the Times' article . . . "'He was fearless,' Ichiro says, carefully choosing his words. 'He was reckless in an effective way. That's the most appropriate description I can give of the pitcher I faced in those days.'" Up against the now controlled Felix, who may somehow appear to be more disciplined than his Japanese counterpart? Batten down the hatches, Mariner nation. This is important.
If the M's somehow take this one, then we've automatically got some toughness back, and it's at least a month's supply. I'm talking Bad-to-the-Bone-Buhner, Arthur-Rhodes-vs.-Omar-Vizquel toughness. The kind of thing we've been lacking. Instant swagger.
But, with our offense, that's a big "if."
Go get 'em, Felix.

After learning the Boston Red Sox had acquired the rights to negotiate with him, Daisuke Matsuzaka was asked at a news conference which batter he most wanted to face in America.
The eight-year pro from Japan, who says he has been dreaming about pitching from a major-league mound since he was a kid, replied without hesitation:
"Ichiro."
