Top Female Performances of 2008 (so far)
Evyn Williams
The 4th Annual Lord of the Rings Marathon (1/4)
Evyn has proven herself worthy of the undying lands. With Big Wang's departure for (what else) an unspecified errand this year (and my brief hiatus during disc II of Fellowship last year to appear as Elmo at a birthday party), Evyn now stands alone as the only Lord of the Rings Marathon participant to never leave the event once in progress. On top of that, Evyn came through on her snack assignment, which was this year's most difficult: lembas bread. It was a scone/biscuit hybrid, complete with wax paper leaf wrapping and twine. As if the 15-hour set-aside for this story wasn't enough, Evyn helped the Fellowship of the Basement to a whole 'nother level of nerddom.
Honorable Mention: Kasey Koopmans
Kasey, meanwhile, entered the event through my brother, and despite leaving the city and coast entirely to begin her higher education in New York, Kasey still found 15 hours to set aside for these movies during her freshman Christmas break. An unexpected performance, but perhaps not for some. It's just that I'm impressed by females who commit to this thing.
Kate Hannum
NFC Wild Card Playoff: Redskins at Seahawks (1/5)
During the aforementioned Lord of the Rings Marathon, Big Wang, Luke and I were hunting for tickets on the Craigslist for tickets to the Seahawks game. Mahesh set a mildly unreasonably high price cap before dropping out completely, and the first attempted replacement was already commited to camping out for Seattle's other big sporting match that day: WSU at UW in men's basketball. Enter Kate Hannum, who had only asked to watch the game at wherever we ended up watching the game with whomever ended up watching it. Never did I imagine that she would include Qwest Field for $125. We were able to browse the bountiful 4-person ticket offers and land a 45-yard line spot. It was her first Seahawks game, and she ended up sandwiched between Big Wang and I in victory hugs for a lot of it. She was a rained-on, false-start inducing 12th Womyn through and through. She's even backed up her promise to don a Seahawks tattoo whenever we finally take home the Lombardi Trophy. Sorry fellas, she's taken.
